Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: May 4, 2026
⚠️ Draft — review before going live. Standard SaaS AUP language tailored for Throttle. Take to attorney for review.
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) supplements our Terms of Service and applies to all users of the Throttle service operated by Sparcgen, Inc. We may update this policy from time to time; the current version is always posted at this URL.
By using Throttle you agree not to engage in any of the activities below. Violations may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account without prior notice.
1. Prohibited content and conduct
You may not use Throttle to plan, share, or facilitate any activity that:
- Violates any applicable law or regulation, including local traffic, road, trespass, or environmental laws
- Endangers others (planning routes for street racing, illegal stunting, crowd disruption, harassment, etc.)
- Infringes intellectual property rights of any third party
- Promotes discrimination, harassment, or violence
- Distributes malware, phishing pages, or other malicious code
- Is fraudulent, deceptive, or designed to mislead
2. Technical abuse
You may not:
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, related systems, or other users’ accounts
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system without our prior written permission (see “Security Researchers” below)
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including by overloading servers, introducing viruses, or sending spam
- Use automated means (bots, scripts, scrapers) to interact with the Service except through documented APIs (we do not currently offer a public API)
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
- Mass-download data, including POI data sourced from OpenStreetMap; OSM data is freely available directly from OpenStreetMap under their license
3. Commercial use
Throttle is provided for personal, non-commercial route planning. You may not:
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute Service output (URLs, GPX files, route data)
- Use the Service to provide a competing product or service
- Use the Service for activities that, in aggregate across many users, exceed the spirit of personal planning (commercial fleet management, rideshare optimization, etc.)
If you have a legitimate commercial use case (motorcycle club tour operators, dealership ride events, motorcycle journalism), contact legal@throttlerides.com before proceeding. We’re generally open to reasonable arrangements.
4. Fair use limits
We apply fair-use limits on free-tier accounts to protect the Service from abuse:
| Action | Limit |
|---|---|
| Sign-in email requests | 8 per hour per IP, 4 per hour per email |
| Invite requests | 3 per hour per IP, 2 per day per email |
| Address geocoding | 120 requests per minute per IP |
| Route preview | 60 per minute per IP |
| Smart suggest | 30 per minute per IP |
These limits are subject to change. If you regularly hit them through normal use, contact us — they’re calibrated for typical riders, not power users.
5. Content uploaded to Throttle
You retain ownership of content you submit (trip names, request-invite messages, account display name). You agree that the content you submit:
- Does not violate any third-party rights
- Is not illegal, defamatory, harassing, threatening, obscene, or otherwise objectionable
- Does not contain personal information about other identifiable individuals without their consent
We reserve the right to remove content that violates this policy and to terminate accounts of repeat offenders.
6. Security researchers
We welcome responsible security research. If you believe you have discovered a security vulnerability:
- Do not access, modify, or delete other users’ data
- Do not publicly disclose the issue before we have had a reasonable chance to investigate and fix it (we ask for 90 days)
- Do not demand payment as a precondition of disclosure
Report findings to security@throttlerides.com. We do not currently offer a paid bug-bounty program but we will acknowledge contributors on a future security-acknowledgments page.
7. Reporting abuse
If you believe a Throttle user is violating this policy or our Terms, report it to abuse@throttlerides.com. Include as much detail as possible (URLs, screenshots, timestamps). We review all reports.
8. Enforcement
When we determine that this policy has been violated, we may:
- Issue a warning to the user
- Suspend the account temporarily
- Terminate the account permanently
- Notify law enforcement if required by law or to protect public safety
- Cooperate with subpoenas, court orders, or other lawful requests
Decisions about violations are at our sole discretion. We may take action without prior notice when necessary to protect the Service, our users, or third parties.
