Throttle

Frequently asked

What is Throttle?

A route-planning app for motorcyclists. You set start, end, and a curviness preference; we find the twistiest reasonable route and suggest gas, food, and rest stops along the way. Then you ride with Google Maps doing turn-by-turn.

Is it free?

Mostly. Free includes curvy route planning, smart stop suggestions, sharing, sync across devices, and one saved trip. Throttle Pro ($39.99/year, billed annually, 7-day free trial) lifts the saved-trip cap and unlocks the quick round-trip generator. Sign up to use Throttle. Subscribe if you want Pro.

Where does the routing data come from?

OpenStreetMap, the open-data map of the world. We run our own GraphHopper instance with custom curviness profiles, so the route quality is under our control rather than at the mercy of a third-party API.

Where does the POI data come from?

Also OpenStreetMap — gas stations, restaurants, scenic overlooks, rest areas. Refreshed monthly. Sometimes incomplete or out of date for individual places; verify critical info (especially fuel availability on long stretches) before relying on it.

Why not just use Google Maps directly?

Google Maps optimizes for time, not curves. It will route you along the highway every time. Throttle picks the curvy parallel road instead. Then we hand off to Google Maps so you get its best-in-class navigation for the actual ride.

Why not Calimoto / Rever / Kurviger?

They're great. We're different in posture — Throttle is designed for desktop planning (real keyboard, real screen, real maps) with the navigation handled by an app you already trust. The other tools optimize for in-ride. Different jobs, different surfaces.

Where does Throttle work today?

North America (US, Canada, Mexico) and India. You can plan trips inside those regions and hand off to Google Maps. Outside those regions the planner still shows a route preview, but Export to Google Maps is region-fenced. More regions land as we expand routing data.

Do I need an account to use Throttle?

You can plan and preview a curvy route without one — start, end, and the line on the map. The interesting buttons (Smart Suggest stops, the quick round-trip generator, Save Trip, and Ride/Export to Google Maps) need a free account. On the web app sign-in is via email magic link, Google, Apple, or password. On the iOS and Android apps it's email magic link — pick whichever fits.

How do you handle my data?

Your trips and email are yours. We don't sell them, don't use them for ads, and Throttle products are ad-free. See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.

Can I delete my account?

Yes — Account → Delete account. Your personal information is hard-deleted; your saved trips are anonymized (owner link removed) so the system continues to learn from real route patterns without holding your identity.

Does Throttle have an API?

Not publicly yet. If you have a use case (motorcycle club tour planner, integration with another product), email hello@throttlerides.com and we'll talk.

I found a bug / a route I love that Throttle missed / a POI that's wrong.

Email hello@throttlerides.com. POI fixes go upstream to OpenStreetMap (where anyone can edit; we'll happily walk you through how if you're curious).
